Quality Health is a Healthcare Commission approved national contractor and works for 360 Trusts throughout England on the National Patient and Staff Surveys. Their work covers Foundation Trusts, Acute Hospitals, Specialist Acute Trusts, PCTs, Mental Health Trusts, Ambulance Trusts, and SHAs - every part of the NHS.

Ross has worked with Quality Health since 2004 when he led the team that developed their Extranet system that connects them with their clients.

The Quality Health Extranet internally manages;

  • the setup of the questionnaire;
  • uploading of the questionnaire candidates from NHS trusts;
  • the send out to survey candidates;
  • answer uploads and client reporting.

Externally all clients, mainly NHS providers can access reporting functionality and can upload work for Quality Health to process.

Quality Health required a major upgrade to the system as they moved from manually hand coding questionnaires to using scanners along with EMC Captiva’s BWize Optical Mark Recognition System.

Solution

Inflecto Systems carried out a major upgrade to their existing system including a separate component called 'BWize Bridge' to manage the mapping of data between BWize and the legacy Extranet system. As part of the upgrade many enhancements were made to the Extranet.

The system was developed as a .NET based Windows service with a .NET based desktop application to manage the service. Many enhancements were made to the existing Extranet using a mixture of .NET based code and classic ASP code.

Outcome

The Quality Health Extranet

The upgrade was a success and has been in constant use ever since and has successfully processed millions of questionnaires. The new system allows Quality Health to process data accurately at a much higher rate than was achievable before, meaning they can handle higher volumes of work and produce timely accurate results every time. After the project was completed Inflecto Systems took over the maintenance and support of the Extranet.
